Another winter storm will plow into the northern part of New Mexico this weekend and bring with it significant snow to area mountains. The San Juans, Sangre de Cristo's and Jemez could see any where from 6" to 12" of snow. As for valley locations, expect occasional snow flurries with light accumulations. Albuquerque can expect a few flakes and possibly light accumulation along the foothills. The storm will linger through early Monday and then head into the mid-west.

The week will begin mild across the state with highs expected in the 60s and 70s. However, cooler air is on the way and we will experience a slight dip in temperatures into to Tuesday as a cold front moves in. Northeastern New Mexico will experience the biggest dip while the west will only see a slight drop. A bigger system is expected to swing into the state towards the end of the week and into the weekend.

Relatively quiet weather on tap for the weekend before things start getting interesting heading into next week. In the mean time, storms will pass to our north and south with an occasional front moving through the east. The first front will push into the northeast late Sunday into early Monday. There won't be much to this first front. However, the next one, Mon. evening into Tuesday, may pack more of a cold punch. The east will drop afternoon highs by 10-15 degrees and there may be a few showers.

Ridge hangs out for the next several days and will bring a warming trend to the region. Expect temperatures to climb into the 60s and 70s. Highs could cool a few degrees in the extreme northeast part of the state towards the middle of the week. We may not see another storm for several days as the ridge continues to keep storms away.

Colder air arriving from the north along with showers in the northeast will set the stage for a cooler Monday across the state. Snow showers can be expected in the higher terrain of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains as well as cold rain in the plains. Monday looks to be a little quieter across the state in the wake of this system. However, another storm will barrel into the state late Tuesday into Wednesday. This one promises to deliver even more showers and colder temperatures across the state.

The best way to describe our the next few days would be a series of peaks and valleys. What is meant by this is we will have brief periods of inclement weather followed by a short time of pleasant weather. Our first storm system will move in Sunday bringing a quick shot of showers for the east slopes and occasional snow showers for the mountains. Additionally, expect cooler temperatures to start out next week. The second storm will move in mid-week and bring a good blast of winter to the state. Snow levels will be much lower and many areas who haven't experienced the first season freeze will more than likely see temperatures plummet into hard freeze levels.

It looks like a battle is shaping up in weather the upcoming week. On Monday a trough will set up over the southwest and keep most of the region mild. However, a front will try and nudge into the northeastern plains bringing cooler temperatures. It looks like the front will progress as far as the Raton pass and Clayton areas but will be blocked from working into the rest of New Mexico. As for the end of the week a ridge will set back up over the west and bring another front through the east.
