A rather quiet period of weather lies ahead for the Land of Enchantment. While the nights will continue to feature rather chilly temperatures, abundant sunshine will provide for a nice warm-up each afternoon. In general, afternoon temperatures will be near or even a few degrees above normal into the first part of the new work week.
About the only weather features to speak of in the days ahead will be a few back door old fronts that will drop onto the eastern plains during the week ahead. In general, these fronts will be dry and relatively weak. Their only impact will be to drop temperatures a few degrees across the eastern parts of New Mexico.
Looking long range, we are still keeping an eye on a potential storm system for late next week. But at this time the models are rather inconsistent and it is way to early to tell if the region will be hit with another winter type storm. But you can bet, that we will certainly keep that system in our sights.

After a pretty exciting past couple week’s weather wise it is about to get a whole lot more boring. High pressure will set up over the west pushing storms way to our north. Look for mostly sunny skies and temps in the 60’s. Our next shot at a storm look to be at least 10 days off. Enjoy a sunny and warmer weekend.

Our very slow moving storm system will exit the state overnight leading to clearing skies for Friday and very cold temps overnight. Overnight temps will bottom out near zero in the northern mountains with the teens common near Santa Fe with the low to mid 20’s in the metro area. Mostly sunny skies will take over for the remainder of the weekend into next week. Highs will warm back into the 60’s as well.

The much anticipated winter storm is finally starting to pull out of the region. However, it will continue to provide the northern mountains and northeast highlands with a few snow showers through the day Thursday. Meanwhile, a big blast of cold air will continue to overspread the rest of the region.
The first freeze of the season will be occurring across the southern parts of New Mexico Thursday and Friday mornings, while northern sections really fall into the deep freeze. Sunshine will reappear by Friday, but it will likely be this weekend before afternoon high temperatures can recover.

Cloudy will continue to push into the area as a strong storm system passes through the state over the next 48 hours. This storm will pack a lot of cold air and mountain snow. However, this system does not have a tremendous amount of moisture with it. So valley sections will see much colder temps and a few snow and rain showers but it will take mountain sections to squeeze out enough moisture for significant snow numbers. Snow will begin early Wednesday over the high country and continue on and off through early Thursday. The Rio Grande Valley will see cold temps late Wednesday through Thursday. Highs on Thursday will not escape the mid 40’s.

Clouds will increase across the state from west to east on Tuesday. A strong low pressure system will setup over the four corners by late Tuesday night. The low will then cross the state slowly on Wednesday into Thursday. This system will not pack a ton of moisture but what it will do is pack a lot of cold air. That combination of cold air and at least some moisture should lead to a nice snow storm for the mountains north of Santa Fe. The Albuquerque metro area will pick up mostly spot rain showers through Wednesday with a possible icy mix Wednesday night into Thursday. However, at this point accumulations look to be light. Stay tuned.

Colder air arriving from the north along with showers in the northeast will set the stage for a cooler Monday across the state. Snow showers can be expected in the higher terrain of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains as well as cold rain in the plains. Monday looks to be a little quieter across the state in the wake of this system. However, another storm will barrel into the state late Tuesday into Wednesday. This one promises to deliver even more showers and colder temperatures across the state.
