Eastern New Mexico will continue to be favored for thunderstorms over the next couple of days. In the Albuquerque metro area storms are possible but not likely with highs in the low 90s. The chance for showers will diminish even across the East as we head into Thursday and drier air takes over.

Fire danger will continue to be a major concern across the state. Humidity levels will be in the single digits by midweek and temperatures will continue to rise well into the 90s. Winds will also be gusty throughout the midweek leading to big fire concerns statewide.

The chance of showers will jump back up again by late in the work week as more moisture creeps into the state. The chance for showers once again favors eastern New Mexico. In the metro temperatures remain in the low 90s throughout the week with a chance of showers finally reemerging in the forecast by Friday.

Levi Chavez is accused of shooting and killing 26-year-old Tera Chavez with his department-issued handgun in their Los Lunas home, and of trying to make her death look like a suicide because prosecutors say she was about to report him for insurance fraud. He is charged with first-degree murder and evidence tampering.

     5) If you’ve ever wanted to be on Gordon Ramsey’s hit show…”Hotel Hell”…Now’s your chance. He’s filming at the Meson de Mesilla” in Las Cruces this week…trying to fix the place up. The hotel is taking reservations for rooms and meals.

     4) Investigators in southern Colorado want you to keep a look out for Dylan Redwine if you go hiking this summer. He’s the teen who went missing back in November from his dad’s home in Vallecito.

     3) Back to court this morning for Levi Chavez…the former Albuquerque Police Officer accused of killing his wife. Today we’re set to here more from Tera Chavez’s family.

     2) Firefighters in the Gila will be back at work soon…trying to prevent the “Silver” fire from reaching any homes or buildings in Kingston. That fire’s growing and is just 5% contained. None of the “Jaroso” fire in the Pecos is contained.

     1) Today will have isolated showers and thunderstorms after noon. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. But it’ll be mostly sunny, with a high near 92 and a Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. The chance of precipitation is 10%.
Then tonight will have isolated showers and thunderstorms before midnight. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph becoming east after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 10%.

The city of Albuquerque wants to remind pet owners, who are out and about Sunday with their dogs, not to leave them in a parked car.

On an 85 degree day, the temperature inside the car can reach 120 minutes with the widows open slightly.

Sunday featured interesting weather across New Mexico. While the number of severe storms was dramatically down from Friday and Saturday, the metro saw a haboob during the afternoon hours. As a storm setup to the west of the city, and another to the south, the gusty winds rushing out of the storms pushed the dirt from the parched surface to create an impressive dust cloud over the city.

The upcoming workweek will feature quieter weather, with fewer and fewer storms through Monday and Tuesday. As the moisture starts to dwindle, the heat will crank back up. By midweek, the metro will reach the mid to upper 90s while the southeast will again reach the low 100s. Unfortunately, the news doesn’t get much better for the efforts against the wildfires across the state as winds pick up toward the end of the workweek.

Storm coverage across New Mexico will start to dwindle over the next couple of days. The most storms will be found across the East on Sunday with only spot storms central and west. Then as the west and central parts of the state dry out Monday, the east will only have sport storm chances.

As an area of high pressure moves over the state by the middle of the workweek, things will continue to dry out as temps warm back up. By Wednesday the metro will be near the 100° mark, while much of the east will reach the low 100s.

After a nice crop of thunderstorms on Friday will continue with the chance of showers over the weekend. Although we will see some showers around the area there will not be as many storms throughout the area as today. Highs on Saturday will top out in the low 90s with a chance showers around 30% by the afternoon. The favored areas for getting most of the rain will be over the mountains and areas out in eastern New Mexico. Sunday we will continue and recycle mode for moisture so the overall shower crop will thin out a bit.

Monday changes roll in once again. A cold front pushes into northeastern New Mexico recharging the area with moisture. That additional moisture Will touch off thunderstorms on Monday and Tuesday across east and central sections of the state.

Friday at noon, ABQ RIDE will continue this yearly tradition of honoring the U.S. Flag with a special ceremony at the Alvarado Transportation Center at First and Central SW. ABQ RIDE employees who also served in the military will be honored with the presentation of a commemorative coin from the City of Albuquerque.

The ceremony will begin with patriotic music from the Albuquerque Concert Band, an all-volunteer ensemble that has been performing band music in the area for over forty years. The Kirtland Air Force Base Honor Guard will present the colors, as vocalist Kim Kent sings the National Anthem. The City of Albuquerque’s Veterans Affairs Office will then present special, commemorative coins to ABQ RIDE employees who served in the military. The Albuquerque Concert Band will then play more music until 1:30 p.m.
