Friday at noon, ABQ RIDE will continue this yearly tradition of honoring the U.S. Flag with a special ceremony at the Alvarado Transportation Center at First and Central SW. ABQ RIDE employees who also served in the military will be honored with the presentation of a commemorative coin from the City of Albuquerque.

The ceremony will begin with patriotic music from the Albuquerque Concert Band, an all-volunteer ensemble that has been performing band music in the area for over forty years. The Kirtland Air Force Base Honor Guard will present the colors, as vocalist Kim Kent sings the National Anthem. The City of Albuquerque’s Veterans Affairs Office will then present special, commemorative coins to ABQ RIDE employees who served in the military. The Albuquerque Concert Band will then play more music until 1:30 p.m.

Falling rocks damaged the historic trail in the Catwalk National Recreation Area and left the cliff above so unstable the trail has been closed temporarily.

The trail up a narrow canyon in the Gila National Forest near Glenwood is closed from about 0.25 miles from the parking lot to its end, Glenwood District Ranger Pat Morrison said. The includes the catwalk–the portion of the trail suspected from the cliff walls.

The related Whitewater Picnic Area remains open, Morrison said.

Citing the “serious hazard to visitors,” Morrison said the trail will remain closed while the extent of the trouble is evaluated and a contract let to stabilize the rock face above the trail.

The rockfall was reported on Monday.
