Wetter Weather to End the WeekAugust 21st, 2014 at 11:31 am by John Smith under Weather
The middle of the workweek has been quiet with only a handful of storms each afternoon across the state. That all changes today as a storm system approaches from the west. As the storm moves into Arizona, southerly flow ahead of it will help reintroduce moisture to the state during the day Thursday.
However, don’t expect many storms to develop until the low crosses the western part of the state late tonight and Friday. The storm system will act as a trigger to help convert the moisture already in place into showers and storms. Western New Mexico can expect storms to develop by daybreak Friday. Central areas, including the Albuquerque metro will see storm development by the early afternoon.
Unfortunately, this storm system is moving rather fast and will exit the state Friday evening. As the storm exits, drier air will work back in behind it, leading to a quieter weekend. A few spot storms will still be possible over the higher terrain Saturday and Sunday.
Early next week the models disagree with what will exactly happen. One model wants to return abundant moisture to the state, leading to better crops of afternoon storms. The other model keeps us on the drier side.
