NM Jazz Festival comes to Old TownJuly 9th, 2014 at 7:10 pm by Chelo Rivera under Latest Posts
The Historic Old Town Plaza will be filled with the sounds of Cajun, Creole and Zydeco when Cedric Watson and Bijou Creole take the stage at the Gazebo this coming Saturday. Collaboration between the City of Albuquerque and the Outpost Performance Space brings major talent to Old Town for a FREE performance from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. as part of the 2014 New Mexico Jazz Festival!
Opening the afternoon’s musical feast at 1 p.m. is an Albuquerque favorite, Wagogo, featuring an unique world music blend of Chicano influences, Northern Mexico folk songs, calypso island grooves, and the spirit music of Zimbabwe.
Performing from 2 – 4 p.m. is Cedric Watson, one of the brightest young talents to impact today’s traditional Cajun (Louisiana French) music scene. Nominated for four Grammy awards, the fiddler, singer, accordionist and songwriter brings it all-forgotten Creole melodies, modern Cajun and Zydeco, bluegrass fiddle, and old string band tunes. Joining him is Desiree Champagne on trottoir triangle, Kyle Gambino on saxophone, Ian Guidroz on bass, and Aaron Boudreaux on drums.
The all-ages event is free of charge.
