Sandia, Mountainair Ranger districts lift closure ordersJuly 8th, 2014 at 7:30 pm by Chelo Rivera under Latest Posts
Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands Forest Supervisor Elaine Kohrman announced that the Sandia Ranger District’s fire restrictions have been lifted. In addition, the Mountainair Ranger District will rescind its closure order effective July 9, 2014. However, the District will stay in Stage II fire restrictions.
“The districts have received quite a bit of rain, which has increased the moisture levels in the vegetation to the point where it should limit the spread of any human or natural-caused wildfires,” said Kohrman. “In addition, the long-range weather forecast is predicting more rain, which is a good indicator that the monsoon season has arrived.”
The status of the Cibola’s remaining districts are:
Magdalena Ranger District: Stage II fire restrictions.
Mt. Taylor Ranger District: Stage II fire restrictions.
Black Kettle/McClellan Creek National Grasslands: No fire restrictions.
Kiowa and Rita Blanca National Grasslands: No fire restrictions.
The current Fire Restriction orders can be found on Cibola’s web site in the “Alerts and Notices” section.
