6 ABQ ride routes will detour during Pride ParadeMay 29th, 2014 at 9:13 pm by Chelo Rivera under Latest Posts
On May 31st, six ABQ Ride routes will be detoured due to the Albuquerque Pride Parade.
Rerouted buses are listed below:
From 7 a.m. until noon, service on Central will be shut down between University Blvd and Louisiana to accommodate the parade’s float staging area and parade route, which will end at Expo New Mexico’s parking lots. However, three shuttles will be available for passengers along the detoured areas to connect with different routes.
The detour will have the eastbound #777-Rapid Ride/Green Line and Route #66 turning north onto University from Central, before taking an eastbound turn on Lomas. At Louisiana, the routes take a southbound turn before resuming their eastbound routes on Central. Drivers along these routes also have been instructed to stop at bus stops along the detour route, including those of the #11-Lomas route. Westbound, the #66 and #777 will divert northbound on Louisiana from Central, then west on Lomas to south on University before resuming their regular westbound Central routes.
The #766-Rapid Ride/Red Line will follow basically the same University and Lomas route before turning north on Louisiana to the Uptown Transit Center. The trip south uses Louisiana to return to Lomas and University, before resuming its westbound trip on Central.
The #790-Rapid Ride/Blue Line will only have its eastbound route affected. It will turn from eastbound Lomas to south on University, then east on Avenida Cesar Chavez. At Yale, the bus will turn north before eventually resuming its westbound Central route.
Two other routes that cross Central will also be affected during the closure. Route #16/18 (The “BUG”) will use Lead SE while northbound and Coal SE while southbound, instead of using Central to bridge its route between Girard and Carlisle. Route #140/141-San Mateo will take a route that encompasses turns on Lomas and Louisiana NE and Zuni SE to link up again with San Mateo and avoid the closure on Central.
ABQ RIDE will also provide several shuttles during the morning to bridge some of the stops inside the detour. The first shuttle will loop between the University of New Mexico Hospital’s #790 stop to a temporary stop at University and Lomas. Another shuttle will circulate in a loop along Central between University and Girard. A final shuttle will loop from Lomas and Monte Vista to south on Carlisle, then west on Campus back to Monte Vista and Lomas. The shuttles will stop running at noon, once Central is reopened.
There will also be temporary bust stops on Saturday located at:
- NE corner-University and Central
- NW corner-University and Central
- NW corner-Lomas and University
- SW corner-Lomas and University
