5. If you missed last night’s Academy Awards, here are the top winners: 12 Years a Slave took home Best Picture, Matthew McConaughy won Best Actor, Cate Blanchette won Best Actress. Lupita Nyong’o won best support actress.

4. Chaparral Elementary School in northwest Albuquerque will be open today, despite a fire this weekend. APS estimates Saturday’s fire did as much as $200,000 in fire, smoke and water damage. The schools kitchen was effected so students should expected sack lunches for the next few weeks.

3. New Mexico troops deployed on active duty will not have to worry about custody battle’s while they’re away. Governor Martinez signed a bill preventing permanent changes to custody agreements for service members on active duty.

2. Come July, it will be illegal to text while driving anywhere in New Mexico. Governor Susana Martinez signed the bill this weekend. Violators will be fined $25 for the first citation, then $50 for each violation after that.

1. Expect a milder day, partly sunny skies with a high near 62, and calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon. Tonight it’ll be partly cloudy with a low around 32 and a northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
