Storm Time!February 28th, 2014 at 5:41 pm by Mark Ronchetti under Weather
A powerful west coast storm will come ashore tonight and head through New Mexico over the weekend. Look for clouds to increase across the area tonight. Showers will begin in western sections overnight and spread east into the metro area by early Saturday afternoon. Most everything that falls in the metro will be rain. We could pick up some snow showers Sunday as a pacific cold front comes in but the impacts should not be as great as the wind and rain impacts along the valley floor. Look for showers and a winter mix to continue through Sunday morning before skies clear.
As far as the mountains go this storm should be very good. 10″-14″ of snow will be possible over the southern San Juans and Sangre de Cristo mountains. The snow will reach its peak late Saturday through early Sunday. Some snow could well last into Sunday evening along the east slopes.
This storm will most definitely favor the western 2/3rds of the state with the east mainly getting wind. However, showers late Saturday and Sunday will still bear watching. Here is a look at the liquid expected to fall over the state and the snow amounts. Impressive numbers overall!
