An Active Weekend Ahead

February 28th, 2014 at 12:33 pm by under Weather

Today we see somewhat of a break, then our next storm moves in tonight. Despite today being quieter, winds will still be an issue across eastern New Mexico. Winds will come down some this evening before ramping back up again for Saturday.

As moisture gets drawn up ahead of our next storm, snow will redevelop across the San Juans of Southern Colorado. The low elevation rain and mountain snow will expand from the Four Corners down to west central and southwestern New Mexico through Saturday morning. Snow will also move into the west facing slopes of the Northern Mountains. Portions of the Northern Mountains could see over a foot of snow by Sunday evening.

The best window for rain in Albuquerque will be Saturday night through Sunday morning. A back door cold front will also drop into the northeast Sunday morning allowing east slope snow to develop. By Sunday afternoon the storm will start to exit, allowing precip to end west to east.

Much of next week looks quiet with only the occasional storm passing to the north delivering bouts of wind to New Mexico.
