Changes on the WayFebruary 25th, 2014 at 12:29 pm by John Smith under Weather
Eastern New Mexico starts to cool down today. Western and central New Mexico will stay mild this afternoon. The cooler air eventually pushes westward for Wednesday. However, the cold front will not pack as much of a punch west of the central mountain chain. Expect only about a 5° cool down central and west Wednesday.
The overall weather pattern starts to shift back to a winter setup on Thursday. A storm will clip the northern part of the state. Some light snow showers will be possible over the Northern Mountains, while the rest of the state gets a healthy dose of wind. Add to that the dry, warm conditions, fire weather concerns will be higher for Thursday.
A stronger storm will drop into the state over the weekend. More widespread showers will develop west Saturday and push eastward through Sunday. Better snow accumulations are expected over the higher terrain. In the wake of this storm, much colder air will settle in for early next week. Temperatures will return to below average for the first time in weeks.
