The Read to Me Book Drive kicks off its city-wide effort to collect 45,000 new and gently used children’s books.

On Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 10:15 a.m. the Albuquerque Business Education Compact (ABEC) in conjunction with the City of Albuquerque will kick off its twelfth annual Read to Me Book Drive.  The kickoff event will be held at Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Public Library, Main library, 501 Copper Ave. NW, in the Early Childhood Literacy Center.

The citywide book drive begins February 15 and runs through March 31, 2014.   The goal of the book drive is to collect 45,000 books and distribute them to children from low-income families.

Read to Me Book Drive collection sites will be located throughout the greater Albuquerque area at the following locations: Barnes and Nobel, John Brooks Supermart, Applebee’s, La Montanita Natural Foods Coop, Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Library System and Village Inn.  Nearly 50 local employers will also conduct Read to Me book drives among their employees and patrons.
