Here are the five things you need to know before you go this morning.

5. Today we could know if The Candy Lady will be able to keep her sweets store in Old Town. Debbie Ball is mixing things up in court with her landlord.Ball says he wants to charge her too much for rent. He says Ball doesn’t want to sign a lease.

4. The first full day of the 2014 legislative session is about to begin. Tuesday, Governor Susana Martinez outlined her goals, which include extra money for schools, including teacher merit pay. Democrats countered with different goals, including a pay raise for all teachers.

3. Gun control is expected to be a to be a hot topic at the Roundhouse today. Some legislators and other leaders are once again pushing for a bill requiring background checks for people buying firearms at gun shows.

2. The Polar Vortex part two is slamming the East Coast. The blast of Arctic air and snow is hitting from the Carolinas to New England. The storm is causing a slew of travel delays and cancellations across the country today so be sure to check your flights if you’re flying out.

1. Change is in the wind. Today it’ll be partly sunny with a high near 58, and a calm wind. Tonight, it’ll be partly cloudy with a low around 26, and an east wind of 5 to 10 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph after midnight. Brace yourselves for Thursday, when daytime wind gusts are predicted to reach as high as 40 mph.
