5 Things You Need to Know Before You Go: January 16, 2014

Here are the five things you need to know before you go.  

5. If you love Albuquerque’s BioPark, but would like to tinker with it just a bit, today’s the first day you can provide your input. The city wants your feedback on its master plan for the bio park. A public meeting is tonight from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Vince Griego Chambers at the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Government Center downtown.

4. We told you about the chicken murder mystery that’s hatched in the metro. People found their backyard chickens strangled and decapitated recently, then chicken parts were discovered strewn at a local cemetery. Tonight at six concerned citizens are meeting at Immanuel Presbyterian Church to talk about the killings. APD and animal control are expected to be there.

3. Today you can expect sunny skies with a high near 56. North wind will come in at 5 mph. Tonight will be clear with a low around 25. Winds will come in around 5 mph from the northwest.

2. Seventh grader, Mason Campbell is being charged in connection with Tuesday’s shooting. The Chaves County district attorney filed a petition, formally charging the seventh grader with three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The boy’s family is cooperating with the authorities. They say they’re thankful Mason will get the mental health treatment he needs.

1. An emotional day on tap for students, teachers and parent as classes resume today at BerrendoMiddle School in Roswell. Two days after gunshots rang out in the school gymnasium. Police say two students were shot by Mason Campbell, a fellow student. The boy and the girl injured remain hospitalized. Teachers trained yesterday to help students cope and therapy dogs are on site.
