Dangerous Winds Return Creating a High Fire Danger…January 11th, 2014 at 7:09 pm by chrisgilson under Weather
High Wind Warnings, Watches and Red Flag Warnings have been posted for much of Eastern New Mexico for Sunday. A storm system will pass to our north through Colorado tomorrow. Most of the snow/rain will stay in Colorado, but there’s a slight chance at least for a couple of inches of snow to fall in parts of the Northern Mountains. Otherwise, this system will just crank up our winds and create a high fire danger with the recent dry conditions.
Winds will pick up late morning into the early afternoon. Areas in the Eastern Plains under the High Wind Warning could experience gusts up to 60 mph. This could create for tough travel with the strong winds blowing dust around reducing visibility at times. Areas along the East Mountains will also have gusts of 50-60 mph. Albuquerque could have gusts up to 50 mph as well. So use caution when heading out tomorrow and give yourself some extra time.
