Kwanzaa celebrations beginDecember 26th, 2013 at 9:07 pm by Bill Diven under Latest Posts
Today marks the first day of Kwanzaa, a celebration of African American cultures and traditions.
Kwanzaa is from a Swahili phrase which means “first fruits of the harvest.”
The week long celebration ends Jan. 1.
The nonreligious holiday was first observed in 1966.
There are local events being held. On Friday a Kwanzaa celebration will be held in Albuquerque from 6:30-8 p.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in northwest Albuquerque.
It is a community event.
