President Obama has nominated an Albuquerque native to be the next U.S. attorney for the district of New Mexico.
Damon Martinez has served as an assistant U.S. attorney since 2001 and currently supervises the organized crime and gang section in Albuquerque.
U.S. senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich had recommended Martinez for the U.S. attorney post in April.
If his nomination is approved Martinez will fill the post vacated by Ken Gonzales who became a federal judge in Las Cruces.
