The Albuquerque BioPark’s River of Lights kicks off today.
Thousands of people come out each year to see the nearly 400 light sculptures at the Botanic Gardens off Central Avenue NW near the Rio Grande.
Proceeds fund the BioPark, staff and animal supplies along with conservation efforts and school outreach.
The River of Lights runs nightly from 6-9 p.m. through Jan. 5.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 3 and older. Shuttle buses run from the parking lot at the BioPark Zoo on 10th Street SW on weekends and then nightly from Dec. 20-Jan. 5.

It has been a great holiday weekend weather-wise! Temperatures have been rebounding to seasonable highs or even slightly above average after very cold mornings. More of the same is on the way for the next few days before changes head our way later next week.
Winds will be picking up in parts of the state on Sunday. Most areas will experience winds sustained from 10-20 mph out of the west, northwest. Dry conditions will prevail for Monday and Tuesday. It won’t be until Wednesday night when a cold front will start ushering in some changes.
Right now, the models disagree on how much moisture will be available for the storm system. But, there is a chance for some mountain snow and valley rain by Thursday. Temperatures will also take a dive and they’ll be well below average for afternoon highs by the end of the upcoming week. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Some people spent Black Friday shopping for a forever friend.
Lucky Paws in Coronado Center is holding a Black Friday pet adoption special.
Animal lovers can adopt a cat or dog over six months old for 50 percent off.
That includes spay or neuter, all shots required by law, and a microchip for the new owner’s four-legged friend.
Friday’s adoption event for a furry friend seemed to be very convenient for prospective pet owners.
The special runs until 7:30 p.m.

If you didn’t get a Christmas tree over the weekend, and you’re ready to cut one down, then this is for you.
Cutting permits for the Valles Caldera National Preserve in the Jemez Mountains go on sale today.
You’ll be able to cut down your own tree or buy one that’s already cut.
All proceeds from the sale of trees and cutting permits will support the preserve.
