A couple of weeks ago we were deep in drought.

Now, Bernalillo County is offering free sandbags to South Valley residents to protect their property from flooding.

A deluge dumped up to 2 inches of rain there Monday night flooding streets and swamping cars.

No one was hurt, but the storm was so intense residents were warned to stay inside and an evacuation center was set up.

Because we may well get more heavy rain, the county fire department is offering free sandbags.

You can pick them up at any South Valley fire station. Filling them with sand is up to you.
