An Uptick In Storms

July 31st, 2013 at 9:33 pm by under Weather

Storms increased across a good portion of New Mexico today and we will see more storms rolling in for Thursday. Moisture sliding up from the South will fuel the storms.  They  will start over western sections and then move  into central sections during the afternoon hours. The Albuquerque metro area has about 30% chance to pick up storms while the northern mountains and southwestern mountains have the best chance to get measurable rain.

Friday and into the weekend the chance for showers will decrease slightly but scattered storms will still be possible across many central,  northeastern and western sections of the state. Temperatures will be right around 90° which is where they should be for this time of year and the deep moisture doesn’t look like it will return until around 7 August.

Parking meters installed in Nob Hill

July 31st, 2013 at 7:22 pm by under Latest Posts

The city installed 40 new single-head parking meters along Central Avenue in Nob Hill. The new meters allow users to pay with coins or credit cards. Albuquerque has never had single-head meters that accepted credit cards, according to a news release from the city.

The meters are environmentally friendly, using a solar panel and rechargeable back-up battery packs to maximize ongoing power, the city says. Notifications will also be sent immediately from the machines when problems arise such as card reader malfunctions and coin jams.

The meters are currently in a pilot phase for 180 days. Users can give feedback at  http://www.cabq.gov/municipaldevelopment/residents/parking/meter-parking/.

The city said there was no coast to install the meters.

The 5 Things You Need To Know Before You Go | July 31, 2013

July 31st, 2013 at 6:35 am by under 5 Things, Latest Posts, Morning Show

Time for the five things you need to know before you go…

5) Feeling lucky? Then go get yourself a Powerball ticket or two…tonight’s jackpots at $235 million bucks…or take a cash payout…$136.5 million…minus taxes of course.

4) College students…you could get a big break on your federal student loans…as soon as today. The House is set to vote on a bill that could drop them down to 3.9 percent…from 6.8 percent…then they’d be tied to the financial markets.

3) This October you could have the chance to vote on banning most abortions in Albuquerque after 20 weeks. Right now the City Clerk is verifying signatures from a proposal to see if they’re valid…if so…the city council will decide what happens next.

2) What looks like an attempted abduction of two kids in Albuquerque. Two girls’ grandfather says a man inappropriately touched one of the girls and tried to grab both of them at Riverview Park near Golf Course and Paseo Del Norte yesterday afternoon. The girls described the man as 40-ish … white with dark hair …. wearing glasses and a blue sleeveless workout shirt.

1) It’s going be a hot one…It’ll be mostly sunny, with a high near 93 and a calm wind becoming Southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Then tonight will have isolated showers and thunderstorms it’ll be partly cloudy, with a low around 69. There will be a south wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
