Uranium mine seeks ‘active’ statusMay 29th, 2013 at 4:01 pm by Hawa Konte under Community Affairs, News
A uranium mine near Grants, that’s been idle for 23 years, wants to change its permit status to “active.”
According to the Albuquerque Journal, Rio Grande Resources Corportation applied last month to the New Mexico Mining and Minerals Division to revise the Mount Taylor Mine’s permit by October 2014.
That’s when its current “standby” permit is scheduled to expire.
The manager of the mine says the company is anticipating an uptick in demand that wasn’t anticipated when it applied in 2010 for its current permit.
