He made his first start as a pitcher for the Albuquerque Isotopes Monday. Tuesday right handed pitcher Steve Smith packed his bags for double A Chattanooga. Pitcher Matt McGill’s return to the Isotopes sealed Smith’s fate. McGill had been up with the Dodgers while Smith logged time with the Isotopes. He joined the Isotopes May 5th and has played the role of relief pitcher. When he got his first start Monday, Smith said it felt like his old Lobo days when Isotopes park was his home field. Smith said he ran out of gas in the 4th inning. That is how long he worked, allowing two runs and striking out a career best 6 batters. The stay was short. Innings pitched were short. But, the memory will last a lifetime.
