Ceremonies and events beginning at noon Friday will begin the Memorial Day weekend in Old Town.

It’s been 145 years since the remembrance first known as Decoration Day placed flowers on the graves of Civil War soldiers killed during the four years of combat.  Old Town itself saw both Union and Confederate troops during the conflict.

The program remembering the men and women of the U.S. armed forces who died in service to their country begins with a flag ceremony at noon and continues to 9 p.m. with live music and dancing in the Old Town plaza.
