Cold Day Ahead…April 17th, 2013 at 8:42 pm by Mark Ronchetti under Weather
As a storm lifts through the state overnight skies will clear from west to east leaving a mostly sunny day in western and central NM. However, the east & mtns will continue with the chance of snow showers through the morning hours before clearing.
The biggest impact of this system will be on temps. Lows Thursday morning will flirt with the freezing mark. While highs on Thursday will be up to 30° below average for mid April. Friday will get off to another cold start near freezing or just below before a temperature rebound sets up for the weekend along with mostly sunny skies.
As far as snowfall goes the NE will likely see 1″-3″ by Thursday morning. The high northern mountains will be in the 3″-6″ range. This snowfall is key in delaying fire season if only for a week or so.
