Push to protect section of Rio GrandeFebruary 7th, 2013 at 3:37 pm by Magdalena Sharpe under N.M. Politics, News
New Mexico’s congressional delegation has re-introduced a bill that would protect a big section of the Rio Grande.
The Rio Grande Del Norte in Northern New Mexico is a 236,000 acre parcel that stretches from the Colorado border to the Rio Grande Gorge west of Taos.
The push is to get the area protected as a National Monument. If it passes hunting, fishing and other recreation would be protected and so would the many cultural and religious sites that lie within it.
In the past the bill has not passed.
