Forest Service planning burn near ManzanoFebruary 6th, 2013 at 2:38 pm by Bill Diven under Community Affairs, Wildfires
The Cibola National Forest is planning prescribed burning on about 250 acres in the Manzano Mountains near the community of Manzano.
Currently staff in the Mountainair Ranger District is tracking fuel moisture and weather conditions and forecasts before starting the project.
If conditions remain favorable, the burn could begin as early as next week, the district said in a statement released today.
The goal of the burn is to both reduce wildfire fuels and improve forest habitat.
Roads in the burn area will remain closed, and signs warning about fire traffic and smoke will be posted on State Routes 55 and 131.
Questions about the burn or other district operations can be directed to the Mountainair Ranger District at (505) 847-2990.
