USFS planning East Mountain burnsFebruary 5th, 2013 at 3:24 pm by Bill Diven under Community Affairs, Wildfires
Two planned burns on the the U.S. Forest Service agenda for Wednesday and Thursday.
On Wednesday 15 acres in the Casa Loma area are scheduled for treatment to reduce wildfire fuels and improve forest habitat.
The area is about 1.5 miles north of Interstate 40 and 0.25 miles west of State Route 14.
The Thursday burn is tentative at the moment and would be a continuation of the Talking Talons burns. The 40 acres is one of three units included in the project and located about a miles south of the I-40 Zuzax exit.
Smoke is expected to be visible from I-40 and from Cedar Crest, Tijeras and other nearby communities.
