On Monday, January 7, 2013, Sergeant Mitchell Lamb will receive the New Mexico Department of Corrections Medal of Valor from Cabinet Secretary Gregg Marcantel.
Sergeant Lamb is a Corrections Officer at the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility.
The Medal of Valor is the Department of Corrections second highest honor and will be awarded to Sergeant Lamb for his heroism on December 21, 2012.
While off-duty, Sergeant Lamb rushed to a neighbor’s home where two-year-old Asher Lamb (no relation to Mitchell Lamb) was accidentally hit by the family car.
Asher sustained serious injuries to his head and to his femur.
As a result of Sergeant Lamb’s actions that day, the situation was calmed and Asher was stabilized until paramedics could arrive on the scene to transport Asher to the University Medical Center in El Paso.
Asher is continuing his recovery and his family credits Sergeant Lamb’s composure and skill for Asher receiving the best care as soon as possible. Sergeant Lamb, officials, and family members will be on hand with interview possible following the event.
