The Motor Vehicle Department office operated by the city of Bloomfield is closed as investigators look into a suspected embezzlement.

The Farmington Daily Times reports $20,000 apparently was skimmed from money intended for deposit in a city bank account.

No one has been charged, but one employee has been placed on unpaid leave during the investigation.  Five others are on paid leave.

Bloomfield’s mayor says the state auditor will be asked to check the books to find out exactly how much money is missing.
