It’s winter; learn a sport

The state Tourism Department is boosting New Mexico’s recreation resources with a Learn a Winter Sport campaign aimed primarily at skiing and snowboarding.
Winter is cooperating, too, with recent storms freshening the snow base at the state’s eight alpine resorts, three cross-country resorts and popular backcountry areas.
The Tourism Department reports skiing generates about $500 million in revenue annually and supports 2,500 jobs in the state.
The governor has declared January as Learn a Winter Sport Month with tourism officials and representatives of Ski New Mexico holding a launch event this morning.
