Cold Start to the New YearJanuary 1st, 2013 at 5:40 pm by John Smith under Weather
The New Year certainly started on a chilly note with temps 10° – 15° below average for this time of year. Overnight lows will plummet to well below freezing across most of the state tonight. The Northern Mountains and Southern Colorado will even see temps below 0° tonight.
Most of the state will see cold, but quiet conditions through much of the week. The one exception will be the far southern reaches of New Mexico. A weak disturbance will pass south of the state leading to a possibility of light rain/snow late Thursday and early Friday.
The disturbance clears out quickly as high pressure builds in for the weekend. This will allow temperatures to moderate back to near average by Sunday.
The next big storm for New Mexico still appears to arrive sometime in the middle of next week. Expect increasing clouds ahead of this storm Monday and Tuesday of next week, with some light snow starting north and west Tuesday night.
