New Mexico senior Marissa Campbell and Boise State senior Lexi Pfeiffer have earned Mountain West Women’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors, respectively, for meets contested from Dec. 3-18, 2012. It is the first Mountain West weekly honor for both Campbell and Pfeiffer.
Campbell, a native of Albuquerque, N.M., was a part of three school-record performances for the Lobos over the past weekend at the UNLV Winter Invitational. As an individual, Campbell set a UNM record in the 100-yard backstroke with a second-place time of 54.89, 0.10 faster than the previous record established by Campbell in 2009. Campbell swam the first leg of the 200-yard medley relay as the squad posted a winning time of 1:42.25, beating last year’s record-setting time of 1:42.54. She swam the second leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay for the Lobos with an event-winning time of 1:33.40, also beating the previous record of 1:33.66 set during the 2011-12 season. UNM won the nine-team event with 987.5 points.
Pfeiffer, who hails from Las Vegas, Nev., earned key points for the Broncos on Dec. 15 in a 191-102 dual victory over BYU. Pfeiffer earned the first win of her career and first-ever NCAA Zones qualifying mark with a 287.33 on the 3-meter springboard. She also placed second in the 1-meter springboard event with a 249.83.
