Showers will be developing overnight in the western parts of New Mexico as our next winter storm moves in. During the day Friday showers will expand to include central and northeastern sections as well.

Much of the higher terrain of New Mexico and Southern Colorado is under a Winter Storm warning tonight, through the day Friday. Snow will be primarily above 8000′ to start. A cold front will sweep the state on Friday, allowing snow levels to drop to 6500′.

The west facing slopes of the Northern Mountains and Gila will be the favored locations to pick up the most snow, with up to a foot accumulation possible. Lower elevations, such as the metro, will be too warm throughout the day on Friday to pick up snowfall, but rain/mix is expected during the day.

The second part of the storm will roll in on Saturday. This piece will primarily keep the snow going over the western and northern mountains. The metro could pick up a quick shower early in the day.
