The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office is responding to the seasonal jump in suicide cases by spreading to the community a message saying “You are not alone.”
Today it released this public-service message:
The Holidays can bring as much stress as they do joy. During the holiday season, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office handles an increased amount of suicide cases.
Suicide is not just a law enforcement issue, it is a community issue. This public service announcement sends an important message – which is that the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office cares about the community and its citizens, and wants those contemplating suicide to get help.
The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office has an obligation to the public to show them that help is out there and that it’s OK to ask for help. We say to everyone in the community, “You are not alone”.
As we move forward this holiday season, and try to cope with the stress that usually comes hand-in-hand with the holidays, remember that there are resources available for our community.
The Agora Crisis Center is a local and nationwide resource available to our community 9 a.m. to midnight, 365 days a year.
The Agora Crisis Center offers assistance through both local and nationwide telephone numbers, an informative website and also offers Crisis Chat, which is an opportunity to speak privately with a chat specialist through your computer. The local hotline number is (505) 277-3013.
Our community is our priority.
On behalf of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, have a safe and happy holiday.
