More Sunshine On The Way…

November 29th, 2012 at 5:53 pm by under Weather

As a series of storms continue to crash into the west coast we continue to miss out here in the southwest.  Up to ten more feet of snow will fall over the Sierra through the weekend and into the beginning of next week.  Unfortunately, none of that precip will head in our direction.  In fact, we are looking at setting some record highs over the state on Saturday.

We took a look at the New Mexico Snotel sites today over the mountains.  The highest reading in the state was 5″.  That is frighteningly low.  If we keep on this pace our drought situation will be brutally bad come spring.

Whooping Cough Vaccination Reminder

November 29th, 2012 at 11:59 am by under Latest Posts

The New Mexico Department of Health has launched a public awareness campaign to remind New Mexicans to get vaccinated against pertussis, also known as whooping cough. This year 703 cases of the bacterial infection have been reported in New Mexico, up from 277 patients in 2011. Two children, including a 2-month-old girl from San Miguel County and a 4 year-old boy from Bernalillo County, have died this year as a result of pertussis.

The New Mexico Department of Health recommends the following to help reduce the spread of pertussis:

• All infants and children should receive the primary series of pertussis vaccine, called DTaP, at 2, 4, 6 and 12-18 months of age

• All children should receive a booster dose, called DTaP, prior to school entry at 4 to 6 years of age

• Children between 7 and 10 years of age who are behind on pertussis vaccine should get a Tdap

• Children should receive a booster dose of Tdap at entry to middle school if they haven’t received one previously

• All teens or adults should receive a Tdap booster if one was not given at entry to middle school

• All pregnant women should receive a Tdap booster after the 20th week of pregnancy if they have not received one in the past

• Anyone caring for or spending time with an infant should receive a Tdap booster if they have not received one in the past, including people 65 and older

• All healthcare personnel should receive a Tdap booster, as soon as feasible, if they have not received or are unsure if they have previously received a dose of Tdap

The 5 Things You Need To Know | November 29, 2012

November 29th, 2012 at 6:35 am by under 5 Things, Latest Posts, Morning Show

Time for the five things you need to know!

5) If you know any senior citizens who need help paying their utility bill or help with other weather-related services, this is for them. An event to help out some seniors is Today from 9:00am until noon. It’s at the John Marshall Health and Social Services Center on Walter SE near Avenida Cesar Chavez. You must be at least 60-years old to apply for help.

4) Great news for jobs in Rio Rancho. A company called Stolar Research is headed there and will bring at least 25 jobs paying about 60-thousand-dollars each.

3) It’s a free speech controversy at UNM because the University has ripped down posters advertising a rock concert for a band, saying they’re too distasteful and far from being art. We can’t show you the posters but can say they show two naked men in a compromising position. We also can’t tell you the band’s name, but they aren’t happy about this either.

2) Get outside and enjoy the day. Today will be sunny, with a high near 66-degrees with a calm western wind around 5 miles-per-hour. Then tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 31-degrees and a western wind around 5 miles-per-hour.

1) Go double check your Powerball tickets because two of them here in New Mexico are big winners. One of one-million-bucks the other for two-million-dollars. Two lucky tickets matched all the numbers last night and will split the record $579.9-million dollar jackpot they’re in Arizona and Missouri. Here are the numbers for you: 5-16-22- 23-29 and 6.
