Backlash against WIPPNovember 18th, 2012 at 4:53 pm by Hawa Konte under News
An environmental group is fighting a state decision allowing nuclear waste to be stored at the federal facility near Carlsbad.
Albuquerque-based Southwest Research Group says it will ask an appeals court to overturn the state decision granting a permit, which allows the waste isolation pilot plant to get and store nuclear waste in shielded containers.
The group wants public hearings on the permit changes which were approved on November 1ST.
Their worry is inferior containers are being used to handle “hot” nuclear waste.
