Here Comes The Front…November 8th, 2012 at 2:31 pm by Mark Ronchetti under Weather
A very cold and windy storm system will plow into NM beginning tomorrow. The storm will spread clouds and showers over western NM later in the day on Friday. Out ahead of the storm we will have gusty winds on Friday up to 30+mph. Snow will intensify over the San Juan mountains Friday night and Saturday. SW Colorado will by far see the most impressive accumulations with 18″ possible above 9,000′. Areas like Durango Mountain Resort and Wold Creek will be favored. In NM the best chance for significant snow will be along the state line in Rio Arriba and Taos Counties. As well as over the western mountains. 6″ will be possible in the areas. Higher snowfall numbers are possible along the highest west facing slopes.
Here in the metro look for a quick period of showers and possibly a mix of precipitation around noon on Saturday as the front passes. However, I don’t see any significant precip accumulation as the period of rain/snow will be brief.
The big story on Sunday will be the cold. Temps will bottom out in the 40′s for highs before a slow warmup next week.
