Bark Bettle Infestation

Researchers say the drought has turned the bark beetle infestation into a regional epidemic.

University of Colorado researchers say the 2001-2002 drought accelerated the spread of the beetles through New Mexico, southern Wyoming and Colorado.

The beetles have affected nearly 3,000 square miles and even though the drought has eased, the infestation continues.
