Cross-country pet adoptions roll into Santa Fe

The fourth annual Get Your Licks on Route 66 tour stops in Santa Fe Sunday with lots of adoptable pets and dozens of prizes.

The tour promotes homeless animals and animal shelters and is partnering with the Santa Fe Animal Shelter for the adoptions.

The event runs 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the La Montanita Co-op, 913 West Alameda.

The tour started Oct. 6 in Van Nuys, Calif., and plans 15 stops along the route that ends in Chicago.

And yes, Route 66 did run through Santa Fe in its earliest days before the east-west route down Tijeras Canyon and up Nine-Mile Hill was built through Albuquerque.

Thanks for the shout out Bill! We are traveling from LA to Chicago, stopping at shelters to help support adoptions. In the first few shelter stops over 60 pets have found new homes. Brought to you by FIDO Friendly magazine and sponsored by Ford, Petfinder, Petplan Pet Insurance and Animal Radio, we have brought a six-foot tall spinning wheel with great products donated by companies such as Disney, Spring Naturals, By Nature, Cardinal and more where attendees donate $2.00 to spin with proceeds going to the shelter that day. Hope people will come out to enjoy the day and if they are looking for their new forever friend they just might find him or her at La Montanita Co-op. We are taking photos of every adopted pup and will choose one at the end of the tour in Chicago, Nov. 2nd to appear on the cover of FIDO Friendly magazine.
