Prescribed Fire Postponed

Fire officials on the Smokey Bear Ranger District were planning to implement prescribed burning operations on the Skillet 3 piles project this week.

The initial plan was based on last week’s weather, however, with warmer and drier weather today and trending into tomorrow and the next few days, fire managers have postponed ignition operations.

The success of prescribed burning relies not only on the ability to treat acres, but also on the fire manager’s assessment of the burning conditions on the planned day of ignitions. If conditions are not favorable, the burn will be postponed.

The month of October still holds many days of possibilities for burning. Fire crews will work on other projects, with the ability to shift to prescribed fire operations, when the conditions and timing are right.
