Ex-Abq journalist named Washington Post manager

John Temple, managing editor of the now-defunct Albuquerque Tribune, has been named a managing editor of the Washington Post.

In an announcement today the Post said as managing editor Temple will oversee coverage that mostly serves the Post’s local audience and will also serve as the senior digital manager for the newsroom.

Most recently Temple was a founder and general manager of the online news site Honolulu Civil Beat in Hawaii.

After leaving the Tribune Temple move to another Scripps-Howard paper, the Rocky Mountain News in Denver, where he was editor and publisher during the years it won four Pulitzer Prizes and launched new digital initiatives.

His first day at the Post will be April 20.

Temple worked at the Rocky Mountain News from 1992 until it folded in 2009.

The Albuquerque Tribune, founded in 1922, ceased publication in February 2008.
