Firefighters battle mobile home fireMarch 6th, 2012 at 2:31 pm by Hawa Konte under Wildfires
Fire crews from the Fairacres and Doña Ana Volunteer Fire Districts and Las Cruces, are battling a large fire west of the Rio Grandé and south of U.S. 70. The fire is under control at this time.
Heavy spectator traffic on both U.S. 70 and N.M. 292 are impeding the flow of emergency personnel to the scene.
Firefighters were called at 12:10 p.m. to a mobile home at 3530 W. Picacho. Upon arrival, the mobile home was 25 percent involved and rapidly spreading. The residents of the mobile home arrived on scene and confirmed no one was inside at the time of the fire.
At this time, there are no civilian or firefighter injuries or casualties.
The fire is under control at this time, although it has spread to a pile of tree stumps and tires nearby, creating thick, black smoke in the area. Firefighters are working to protect other nearby mobile homes and structures.
