The Las Cruces Police Department is accepting applications for its 42nd training academy scheduled for August.

The deadline for applying is March 12 although filing well in advance of that is encouraged.

The 20-week academy provides nearly 1,000 hours of training.

Salaries start at $15.50 an hour for cadets, jump to $17.83 for probationary officers and reach $20.26 an hour after new officers complete their one-year probationary period.
