I-40 treacherous in eastern N.M.
NMDOT reports fog and black ice hampering travel on 60 miles of Interstate 40 between the eastern Torrance County line and Tucumcari.
The roadway is described as “very slick.”
DOT crews are out sanding and salting.
I-40 in Tucumcari was closed for about six hours earlier in the day after freezing fog iced the pavement and contributed to a fatal crash that killed an animal rescue volunteer and the puppy she was helping to relay to its new home in New York.
