Los Ninos Foundation to host open house

An open house meeting will be held Wednesday to discuss plans for a multimillion dollar retreat complex near the Santuario de Chimayo.

Los Ninos Foundation, the group raising money for the project, is hosting the meeting from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, to allow residents to see the plans and talk to the people involved in the project.

Archbishop Michael Sheehan says the retreat complex would allow visitors to stay longer at Chimayo, rather than just an hour or so as most do now.

But critics say the project is out of character for the sacred shrine, and would bring in unwanted development.
