Driver’s license repeal bill passes House committee

The bill to repeal the 2003 law that allowed illegal immigrants to obtain New Mexico driver’s licenses has passed the House Judiciary Committee on a 9-6 vote.
The bill sponsored by Rep. Andy Nuñez, I-Hatch, now goes to the House floor.

Why would we grant driver’s license to illegals? A driver’s license is a priveledge not a right or they would not be taken away from drunk drivers or deadbeat dads. I don’t think we should reward anyone for doing anythig illegal
Right on Patty why should we grant( that is the key word) licenses to any illegals from any country? Also why are illegals entitled to all the “FREE” benefits like dental, medical, lasic eye surgery, social security,etc? This encourages them to remain illegal because if they become legalized all these free benefits stop and they have to pay just like us who have worked and paid all our lives.

What is so hard to understand about illegal, get legal, get drivers license, everyone will be happy. No need to hide, live in freedom. Can US citizens get a drivers license when they are in another country illegally? Most likely not

Illegal should not give you rights that legal people have. If we allow people who can’t abid by our laws to stay here we soon will have total chaos just like the places they came from. Soon we will be in ruins also.
It is insane to grant drivers licenses to illegals. If nothing else, at least
put “undocumented” on license. If this continues, NM residents will need their passports to board a plane. The Democrats need to stop blocking Governor Martinez at every turn. They are not following the will of the people, and are just acting like spoiled children
Governor Martinez, the illegals have already proven they’ll abuse this sytem by filing false addresses! Stick to your guns! We are already giving them free medical and many other benefits that lots of legals can’t get!! Send Mexican government a bill for taking care of Mexican people.
Illegal immigrants who are making a living and paying their own way should have a chance to find a sponsor who IS a citizen, and work their way to citizenship, just like other immigrants. It’s a chance to make it right instead of just deporting everyone. If the illegals can’t support themselves, then they should be made to return to their country of origin.
When you break the Law, you should not be rewarded you should be deported..
The vast majority of illegals in this State and Nation are, of course, Mexican.
The Catholic Bishop wants the state to issue illegals NM Drivers Licenses so they can stay and, most being Catholic, contribute to coffers of the church. The State politicians that support the illegals in this fashion do so for similar reasons and to buttress what they consider “their voting block”. On the face of the second part it seems to me to be contributing to the criminal act of being in this country ILLEGALLY, and should be treated in that way. Punish those that facilitate illegal acts.

We have enough bad incidents with illegals here in NM, having a DL is a privilage and not a right, take away the DL.
Why in the hell don’t we have la migra, INS, at the MVDs? Then with the bait of a drivers license the illegals can be loaded up and deported. Preferably to the southernmost part of Mexico so it takes them longer to get back here.
I wanna know who the 6 Congresmen were that voted against repeal, so we can vote them out of office next time around; They obviously are looking at $$$ and votes instead of for their constituants
