The home improvement retail giant Lowe’s announced Thursday it is opening a customer support center in Albuquerque.

Lowe’s said it will spend $15 million to renovate a building on Jefferson Avenue in northeast Albuquerque. The call center will open early next year, creating 250 jobs by March and a total of 600 jobs by the end of next year.

Gov. Susana Martinez and Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry joined Lowe’s officials to announce the new center. It’s the company’s first corporate office outside of its headquarters in Mooresville, N.C.

Lowe’s said it will begin taking applications immediately.
