Lincoln Forest plans burns
The Lincoln National Forest later this month plans to burns of slash piles left from thinning projects designed to reduce fire fuels.
The burns are planned for Oct. 17-20 if the weather cooperates.
One burn is scheduled for a 40-acre area south of U.S. Highway 380 about four miles west of Capitan. The other covers 367 acres dotted with dozer piles just south of Jack’s Peak in the Jicarilla Mountains.
Both burns are within the Smokey Bear Ranger District
